
VIRGINIA — A large number of school systems across Virginia have announced closures and delayed openings for Monday, February 9, 2026, as districts respond to lingering winter weather impacts and hazardous travel conditions.
In southwest Virginia, Floyd County Public Schools, Giles County Schools, Montgomery County Schools, and Pulaski County Schools will all open two hours late Monday. Grayson County Schools and Tazewell County Schoolshave announced they will be closed for the day.
In southside and central Virginia, Halifax County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay under Employee Code 2. Amelia County Public Schools and Brunswick County Public Schools will be closed Monday, with Amelia County reporting that 12-month employees should report at 10 a.m.
Several additional central Virginia districts will open late. Caroline County Public Schools, Essex County Public Schools, Goochland County Public Schools, King and Queen County Public Schools, King William County Public Schools, and Louisa County Public Schools have all announced two-hour delays. King and Queen County schools noted that staff should report at 9 a.m., while Louisa County is operating under Code 4.
School officials across the region are urging families and staff to remain alert for additional updates and to use caution on roadways Monday morning, particularly on secondary and rural routes.
