North Carolina school closings and delays for Monday

NORTH CAROLINA — Several school districts across central and northwestern North Carolina will operate on delayed schedules Monday, February 9, 2026, due to weather-related concerns and road conditions.

Davidson County Schools and Guilford County Schools have both announced a one-hour delay for students and staff. Officials said the delayed start is intended to give crews additional time to assess conditions and allow for safer travel during the morning commute.

Rockingham County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Monday. School leaders noted that the later start will provide extra time to evaluate secondary roads and bus routes throughout the county.

In the northern Piedmont and nearby areas, Patrick County Public Schools will also open two hours late on Monday, February 9. Surry County Schools announced a similar two-hour delay.

Families are encouraged to continue monitoring official school district communications for any updates or additional changes. School officials reminded parents and drivers to use caution on roadways and allow extra travel time Monday morning.
