VIRGINIA — A woman was killed and a man was charged following a domestic assault involving a stabbing Saturday night in Powhatan County, authorities said.
Deputies with the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 2000 block of Red Lane Road around 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 7 after receiving a report of a domestic assault. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from severe stab wounds.
Deputies provided first aid to the woman and attempted CPR, but she died at the scene before she could be transported to a hospital.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have not released the identities of either individual, pending notification of family members.
Investigators later responded to a neighboring residence, where a brief standoff occurred. A 31-year-old man, identified by authorities as Cody Travis Mulchi of Chase City, was taken into custody. Mulchi was injured and transported to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Authorities said Mulchi will face multiple charges, including second-degree murder, stabbing with intent to maim, kill or disfigure, and assault and battery of a family or household member. He will be processed after his release from the hospital.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office.
