NORTH CAROLINA — A Snow Hill man is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop in Lenoir County led to a high-speed chase and arrest, according to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident began around midnight Friday when a gray Nissan Altima was stopped on N.C. 258 North near Daly Waldrop Road for a registration violation.

According to warrants, the vehicle drove away during the stop, prompting a high-speed chase.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a light pole at the intersection of Banks School Road and Parrott Dickerson Road, deputies said. The driver, identified as Marcus Hooker, was arrested at the scene.

According to deputies, Hooker was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule VI controlled substances, possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II controlled substances, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, driving while license revoked, operating a vehicle with no registration, and reckless driving.

Officials said Hooker was given a secured bond of $275,000 and is being held in the Lenoir County Jail.
