Thousands without power in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — More than 19,000 homes and businesses are without electricity across North Carolina as of Saturday afternoon, according to outage tracking data.

As of the latest update, 19,346 customers are without power statewide, representing about 0.33% of the 5,869,681 customers tracked across North Carolina.

North Carolina currently ranks first in the nation for the total number of power outages and sixth nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Outages were reported in counties across the state. Forsyth County had the highest number of customers without power, with 2,273 outages. By percentage, Forsyth was also the hardest-hit county, with about 1.16% of customers affected.

A total of 98 utilities are being tracked statewide. Duke Energy reported the highest number of customers without power, with 13,533 outages. Roanoke Electric Cooperative had the highest percentage of customers affected, with 15.01% without electricity.

Utility crews continue working to restore service. No timeline for full restoration has been announced.
