Measurable snowfall possible in parts of Indiana this weekend

INDIANA — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Friday across portions of east-central and southeast Indiana, with snow expected to impact travel and daily activities throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service Wilmington, Ohio forecast office. The advisory spans a broad area including communities in Fayette, Ripley, Dearborn, Switzerland, Butler, Preble, and surrounding counties in Indiana and neighboring Ohio and Kentucky.

Snow Timing and Accumulation:

Snow is expected to begin early Friday morning and continue through much of the daytime hours, with the heaviest snow generally falling late morning into the afternoon. While exact totals will vary by location, forecasters say most areas under the advisory can expect light to moderate snowfall, with total accumulations likely in the range of a few inches where snow bands persist.

Impacts on Travel:

The advisory warns that snow falling on already cold roads may create slick and hazardous driving conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Motorists are advised to use caution, allow extra travel time and be prepared for reduced visibility at times.

Although the term “Winter Weather Advisory” indicates that conditions are not expected to reach warning levels statewide, even modest snowfall on untreated surfaces can contribute to slippery travel and hazardous conditionsduring the morning and afternoon commute.

Broader Weather Pattern:

The advisory comes as part of a broader winter pattern across the Ohio Valley and Midwest that has already produced several inches of snow and occasional ice in recent weeks. Earlier winter storms have left lingering snowpack and elevated travel risks, meaning new snow may more easily accumulate on untreated surfaces.

Forecasters will continue monitoring conditions Saturday and into the early part of the weekend, with a potential for additional light snow or mixed precipitation in some areas as temperatures remain well below normal for this time of year.
