WEST VIRGINIA — Public schools across West Virginia will operate under a mix of closures, non-traditional learning days, and early dismissals on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, as districts continue to respond to winter weather conditions.
According to the West Virginia Department of Education school closings map, the following counties will be closedFriday: Barbour, Braxton, Doddridge, Fayette, Mercer, Nicholas, Randolph, and Tyler counties. Students in those counties will not report to school.
Several counties will operate on non-traditional learning days, meaning students will complete instruction remotely or through alternative learning plans. Those counties include Brooke, Harrison, and Ohio counties.
Other school systems will hold classes but with early dismissals scheduled for Friday. Marshall, Preston, and Tucker counties reported plans to dismiss students earlier than normal due to weather and road conditions.
School officials across the state said decisions were based on local assessments of road safety, weather forecasts, and building conditions. Families are encouraged to monitor communications from their local school districts for details on schedules, bus routes, and expectations for non-traditional learning days.
Additional updates may be issued if conditions change.
