OHIO — A Connersville man was taken into custody Monday afternoon following a police pursuit that began in Ohio and ended across the state line in Indiana.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 44-year-old David Morris was arrested and taken to the Preble County Jail on preliminary charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a felony, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, a misdemeanor.

Just before 1 p.m., a trooper was stationed on Interstate 70 near mile marker 9 in Preble County when a westbound Honda driven by Morris passed the location. The trooper reported observing criminal indicators and several traffic violations, including unsafe lane changes, a marked lanes violation, and following too closely.

When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle initially pulled onto the shoulder before accelerating and fleeing, prompting a pursuit. Around 1:15 p.m., the trooper was notified that the Honda had been involved in a two-vehicle crash on the I-70 to U.S. 40 on-ramp in Indiana. Morris reportedly fled the crash scene on foot.

Authorities said footprints led officers to a nearby business on the Ohio side of the border, where Morris was found hiding in a dumpster and taken into custody without incident.

The crash is being investigated by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and the pursuit remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
