19 people charged in Alabama drug trafficking case

ALABAMA — Nineteen defendants have been charged in two separate federal indictments tied to a large drug trafficking conspiracy in Alabama, according to court records.

All 19 defendants are charged with conspiracy with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl between February and December 2025. Federal prosecutors said 15 of the defendants are also charged with at least one count of using a communication facility, including a phone, to facilitate a drug trafficking crime.

The indictments stem from a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with multiple local law enforcement agencies. Authorities said approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine and fentanyl were seized during the investigation.

The first indictment charges 11 individuals:
Hakim Rashad James, 48, of Birmingham, also known as “Hops”; Ranisha Alliya Tolbert, 26, of Bessemer, also known as “Nisha”; Kelvin Dean Lewis, 48, of Bessemer; Walter Jamal Tate, 47, of Birmingham; James Edward Williams Jr., 42, of Bessemer, also known as “Junior”; Dornita Corine Robinson, 33, of Brighton; Carveyon Tiean Jargee Glover, 27, of Bessemer, also known as “Black”; Sammy Anthony Bryant Jr., 43, of Bessemer, also known as “Pooh”; Leniqu Tamarshay Wood, 31, of Midfield; Patra Shaneal Floyd, 29, of Birmingham; and Stayci Aieyanna Long, 22, of Brighton.

The second indictment charges eight defendants: Antonius Somuntez Sanders, 45, of Bessemer, also known as “Ant”; Zestra Cartasha Williams, 46, of Bessemer, also known as “Star”; Anthony Martez Harris, 39, of Birmingham; Luis Antonio Spano, 48, of Warrior; Geoffrey Lawson, 59, of Bessemer; Anneenah Majeed, 48, of Bessemer; Tom Devonte Woods, 31, of Columbiana; and an unnamed 70-year-old Birmingham man referred to in court documents as “Roy.”

Special grand jury findings outlined drug quantities attributed to various defendants as part of the conspiracy. Sanders, Williams, and Majeed are charged with conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and a substance containing fentanyl. Sanders also faces an additional charge involving 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. James is charged with conspiracy involving 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 40 grams or more of fentanyl.

Harris, Spano, Lawson, and “Roy” are charged with conspiracy involving fentanyl. Woods is charged with conspiracy involving five grams or more of methamphetamine. Tolbert, Tate, Williams Jr., Robinson, Lewis, and Long are charged with conspiracy involving 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Glover, Wood, and Floyd are charged with conspiracy involving methamphetamine, while Bryant Jr. is charged with conspiracy involving 40 grams or more of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Federal authorities said the investigation included assistance from the Bessemer Police Department, West Alabama Narcotics Task Force, Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Vestavia Police Department, Hoover Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Irondale Police Department, and the Homewood Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brittany T. Byrd and Carson R. Gilbert. Officials said the operation was conducted as part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative, which focuses on coordinated efforts to disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations operating within the United States.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
