PENNSYLVANIA — Three people are facing charges after authorities say they attempted to smuggle drugs into the Allegheny County Jail, according to the Allegheny County Police.
County police said detectives began receiving information last month that two incarcerated individuals were planning to bring synthetic marijuana, commonly known as K2, into the jail. Investigators later identified the inmates as Tyrease Platt, 31, and Chaz Coles, 39.
According to police, detectives reviewed jail records on Feb. 2 and learned that Platt and Coles were allegedly working with a third individual to have the drugs placed inside a bathroom at a local magistrate’s office. The plan was reportedly timed for Feb. 3, when Coles was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing.
Detectives responded to the magistrate’s office at about 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 3 and observed Tyrique Craighead, 33, arrive and enter the bathroom. After Craighead exited, detectives searched the bathroom and located an open bag of Doritos containing multiple rolled pieces of paper. Police said the contents tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids.
Craighead was taken into custody at the scene. Platt, Coles, and Craighead are all facing multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, contraband, and criminal use of a communication facility.
