OHIO — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another threat made toward Huntington Local Schools, marking the third such incident involving the district in less than a month.
District leaders said in a statement posted to social media Wednesday that the sheriff’s office contacted administrators about the latest threat. Law enforcement officers were present on school property while authorities worked to investigate the source of the threat.
Huntington Local Schools was initially placed on a two-hour delay Wednesday morning. However, district officials later made the decision to cancel classes for the day.
“While we truly wanted to be in session today, the safety of our students and staff must always take precedence in situations like this,” district leaders said in part in the social media post.
According to the sheriff’s office, the first incident occurred on Jan. 13, when authorities received a phone call claiming there was a bomb at Huntington High School. Students and staff were evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Investigators later determined that threat was not credible and no explosives were found.
The district also closed schools on Monday following another reported bomb threat.
Authorities have not said whether investigators believe the threats are connected or if they were made by the same source. The investigation remains ongoing.
