OHIO — A woman from New Matamoras is facing multiple drug and child endangerment charges following a welfare check conducted in late January, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they responded to a welfare check on Jan. 29 and found the home to be in poor living condition. During the investigation, deputies located drug paraphernalia and controlled substances in plain view and in areas easily accessible to two children inside the residence.
Authorities said the substances included suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl. As a result, Jewels L. Best was arrested.
Monroe County Sheriff Derek Norman emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating, “Crimes against children will not be tolerated in Monroe County. As Sheriff, I take these cases personally and I will use every legal tool available to protect our kids. I will not stand for anyone putting a child in harm’s way. Those who do will be held accountable.”
Additional details about the charges were not immediately released. The case remains under investigation.
