Virginia school closings and delays for Tuesday

0

VIRGINIA — As Virginia continues to dig out from recent snow and ice, several school divisions across the state have announced closings, delays, and remote learning plans for Tuesday, February 3, 2026 due to lingering unsafe road and sidewalk conditions.

Confirmed Closures for Tuesday

A number of Virginia public school systems in Central Virginia will remain closed for in-person classes Tuesday:

  • Albemarle County Public Schools
  • Amelia County Public Schools
  • Appomattox County Public Schools
  • Caroline County Public Schools
  • Chesterfield County Public Schools
  • Colonial Heights City Schools
  • Dinwiddie County Public Schools
  • Hanover County Public Schools
  • Hopewell City Public Schools
  • Powhatan County Public Schools

These closures come as districts continue to contend with snow-covered roads and icy patches that transportation officials say are not yet safe for buses or student drivers.

Delays and Remote Learning

Several districts have opted for delayed starts or remote/asynchronous instruction instead of full closures:

Two-Hour Delays Tuesday:

  • Buckingham County Public Schools
  • Charlottesville City Schools
  • Greene County Public Schools
  • Louisa County Public Schools
  • Madison County Public Schools
  • New Kent County Public Schools
  • Orange County Public Schools

Remote or Asynchronous Learning Scheduled:

  • Goochland County Public Schools
  • Henrico County Public Schools
  • Maggie Walker Governor’s School
  • Petersburg City Public Schools
  • Richmond City Public Schools

Northern Virginia Adjustments

In Northern Virginia and the Washington-area suburbs, several school divisions have also announced schedule changes for Tuesday to allow additional travel time and address ongoing snowpack and ice risks:

  • Prince William County Public Schools — two-hour delay for all schools
  • Stafford County Public Schools — two-hour delay
  • Manassas City Public Schools — two-hour delay
  • Manassas Park City Schools — two-hour delay
  • Spotsylvania County Public Schools — remote learning (Code 3)
  • Fredericksburg City Public Schools — remote learning day (Code Blue)

District officials in these areas said delays and remote learning options are designed to ensure safe travel for buses and families as conditions vary widely across neighborhoods.
