OHIO — An investigation is underway following an incident at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown, according to officials.
A representative for CoreCivic, which operates the facility, said the incident involved individuals being held for the company’s federal partners. CoreCivic works with the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcementto house detainees while they go through the legal process.
According to the representative, one person was treated by medical staff at the facility before being transported to a local hospital, where they were treated and later released.
Separately, a report from the Youngstown Police Department states that officers responded to the correctional center on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, for reports of a stabbing. Police said a prison administrator told officers that an inmate was allegedly stabbed in the hand and on the right side of the head during an argument with another inmate.
The injured inmate was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not said whether the reported stabbing and the incident described by CoreCivic are related.
No additional details have been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
