
NORTH CAROLINA — School districts across North Carolina are announcing closures, delays and shifts to remote learning for Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, following the weekend snowstorm and lingering hazardous travel conditions.
In the Piedmont Triad, several districts moved quickly to adjust schedules. Guilford County Schools and Stokes County Schools were listed as closed for Monday, while Randolph County Schools and Asheboro City Schools were listed as holding a remote learning day.
In central North Carolina, additional closures were posted Sunday afternoon. Lee County Schools and Northampton County Schools were listed as closed for Monday, along with several private schools and other services.
Across eastern North Carolina, multiple districts announced full closures or remote instruction. Craven County Schoolsand **Lenoir County Public Schools were listed as closed Monday. **Duplin County School System and **Greene County School System were listed as remote learning days, while **Jones County Schools was listed as closed through Tuesday, Feb. 3. **Onslow County Schools was also listed as closed Monday, and **Carteret County Schools was listed as closed Monday with an optional remote workday for staff.
In southeastern North Carolina, districts and colleges also reported changes for Monday. **Bladen County Schools and **New Hanover County Schools were listed as remote learning days. **Brunswick County Schools was listed as closed for students Monday, while **Pender County Schools was listed as taking a snow day. **Columbus County Schools and **Whiteville City Schools were also listed as operating remotely.
School leaders across the state have cited snow-covered and icy secondary roads and very cold temperatures as factors in deciding whether buses can run safely and campuses can open. In the Charlotte region, districts were also adjusting Monday schedules in the wake of heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions.
Because closure lists can change as conditions evolve, families are encouraged to monitor alerts from their local district and check updated lists from local outlets throughout the day Sunday and early Monday.
