GEORGIA — Road conditions are beginning to deteriorate across North Georgia as a snowstorm moves through the state on Saturday, prompting warnings from transportation officials.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, crews spread brine on most major roadways from Friday into Saturday morning in preparation for the storm. GDOT officials said crews will continue treating and plowing roads as conditions warrant.
Despite those efforts, officials are urging residents to stay off the roads unless travel is necessary for an emergency. GDOT warned that road conditions are expected to remain dangerous through Sunday afternoon, even though snowfall is forecast to end on Saturday.
Multiple crashes have been reported in the state.
Transportation officials said lingering snow and ice could continue to create hazardous driving conditions across North Georgia after the storm moves out.
