
VIRGINIA — A 75-year-old North Carolina man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday night on Route 1 in Dinwiddie County, according to the Virginia State Police.
Police said the crash occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, in the 6500 block of Boydton Plank Road (Route 1). Troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
The victim was identified as Linwood Earl Williams, 75, of Snow Hill, North Carolina. According to police, Williams had exited his vehicle, which was stopped in the turn lane leading into the Aldi Distribution Center. While Williams was speaking with the driver of a tractor-trailer that had stopped behind him, he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Route 1.
Virginia State Police said Williams was standing in the northbound travel lane at the time of the crash. He was transported to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene, and police said no description of the suspect vehicle is currently available. Alcohol involvement remains under investigation.
