NORTH CAROLINA — Officials in Old Fort are warning residents and motorists to avoid part of Catawba Avenue as emergency crews respond to a reported gas leak.
According to McDowell County Emergency Management, crews are currently on scene addressing the gas leak on Catawba Avenue. Authorities said some businesses along the roadway have already been asked to evacuate as a precaution.
Emergency personnel remain prepared to request additional evacuations if conditions warrant, officials said.
Drivers and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area while crews work. A detour has been established, with traffic directed to use Water Street to Main Street.
Officials said updates will be provided as the situation develops.
