Multiple schools in Maryland announce closures for Wednesday

MARYLAND — Schools across Maryland will remain closed or otherwise adjust schedules Wednesday as the state continues to deal with the aftermath of a major winter storm that brought snow, ice and hazardous travel conditions.

Districts reporting closures Wednesday include:

  • Anne Arundel County Public Schools — all buildings closed, staff under Code Red; district continues cleanup from the storm.
  • Baltimore City Public Schools — closed due to ongoing storm-related conditions; virtual learning option BRAVE will remain open for students who participate remotely.
  • Baltimore County Public Schools — all schools and offices closed; road hazards cited as a key factor.
  • Carroll County Public Schools — closed Wednesday; central offices opening later for staff.
  • Cecil County Public Schools — buildings closed to students; virtual instruction planned.
  • Frederick County Public Schools — closed, with offices opening two hours late for employees.
  • Harford County Public Schools — closed Wednesday.
  • Howard County Public Schools — public schools and offices closed; all student activities canceled.
  • Montgomery County Public Schools — closed Wednesday with Code Red in effect for staff; road and walkway safety remain concerns.
  • Prince George’s County Public Schools — closed under Code Yellow, with emergency personnel only required on site.
  • Talbot County Public Schools — all schools and administrative offices closed due to extreme cold and hazardous conditions.
  • St. Mary’s County Public Schools — all schools and offices closed; no employees should report to work.
  • Calvert County Public Schools and Charles County Public Schools — both closed Wednesday due to inclement weather.

Officials cited icy roads, extreme cold and ongoing cleanup efforts as reasons for the closures and delays throughout the state following last weekend’s storm. Temperatures expected to remain well below freezing and lingering hazardous conditions in many areas contributed to the decisions.

Parents and guardians are advised to check directly with their local school districts for the most up-to-date information, as schedules may change.
