VIRGINIA — More than 9,700 homes and businesses remain without power following a snow and ice storm across Virginia as of Monday evening, according to the latest outage data.
Statewide, 9,724 customers remain without power, representing 0.24% of the state’s 4,080,033 tracked utility customers. Virginia currently has the eighth-highest number of power outages in the United States and ranks 10th nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.
The most significant outages are concentrated in Washington County, where 4,335 customers remain without power. That equals 17.89% of utility customers in the county, making Washington the hardest-hit county in Virginia.
Utility crews continue restoration efforts as icy conditions and downed trees impact power lines, particularly in southwestern portions of the state. Of the 23 utilities tracked statewide, Appalachian Power Company is reporting the largest number of outages, with 8,025 customers still without power.
By percentage, Community Electric Cooperative is experiencing the greatest impact, with 11.4% of its customers remaining without power as repair work continues.
Residents are encouraged to remain cautious, avoid downed power lines, and follow generator and heating safety guidelines while utilities work to restore service.
