INDIANA — Dangerous winter weather that brought snow, ice and bitter cold has prompted numerous school closures, e-learning shifts and schedule changes across Indiana for Monday, January 26, 2026. Local officials and school administrators cited hazardous travel conditions and sub-freezing temperatures as the driving factors behind the decisions.
Across central Indiana, many districts will be closed or operating with remote instruction Monday. Schools such as Indianapolis Public Schools are holding e-learning days, while multiple community and charter schools in the Indianapolis area are closed due to the weather.
In south central and southeastern Indiana, several school corporations and community schools are confirmed closed Monday, with snow and ice making road travel unsafe.
Districts like Frankfort Community Schools, Lafayette School Corporation, Muncie Community Schools, Warren County Schools and others will not hold in-person classes, with many also using virtual lessons or traditional snow days.
Smaller districts and rural schools are also impacted: Decatur County Schools, Delphi Community Schools, Jay School Corporation, North White Schools and others are closed or designated e-learning days.
Communities such as Speedway have joined the closures, with all Speedway Schools announcing they will be closed Monday as a traditional snow day without remote learning.
Church-affiliated schools and private academies statewide are similarly adjusting: a number of Catholic and Christian schools around Indianapolis and central Indiana are either closed or switching to e-learning Monday.
Public officials have emphasized that decisions about closures are based on current and forecasted conditions, and families should stay tuned to direct district communications for the latest updates as conditions evolve.
