One person dead following vehicle crash in Alabama

ALABAMA — One person was killed and another was injured Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 280 in Birmingham, according to the Rocky Ridge Fire Department.

Fire officials said the crash occurred near Cherokee Road. A vehicle carrying two occupants was traveling westbound when the driver lost control and struck a guardrail on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of those involved have not been released.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including Mountain Brook Fire and Rescue, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Mountain Brook Police Department, and the Homewood Police Department.

No additional details were immediately available. The crash remains under investigation.
