NORTH CAROLINA — Authorities in Buncombe County are investigating whether a man’s death early Sunday morning was related to severe weather conditions affecting the area.
According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called just after 8 a.m. to the 400 block of New Leicester Highway, where a man was found deceased in the roadway. The man’s identity has not been released.
Detectives are working to determine whether the death was weather-related. Officials said that, at this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play, but the investigation remains ongoing.
The sheriff’s office is also seeking information that may help notify the victim’s family.
BCSO District 2 Captain Chris Stockton urged residents to take winter weather warnings seriously as cold temperatures continue. “We continue to encourage folks to take the warnings about this storm seriously and plan for upcoming frigid temperatures over the upcoming days,” Stockton said. “If you need assistance, please call the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office at 828-250-6670, and if you have an emergency, call 911.”
Authorities said additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
