
FLORIDA — A motorcycle crash on Interstate 95 in Brevard County claimed the lives of both the rider and his passenger Friday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred at approximately 4:17 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, along the southbound lanes of I-95 in the Mims area. A 72-year-old man from Edgewater was operating the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, a 59-year-old woman, was transported to HCA Lake Hospital for treatment. Authorities said she later died from her injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the motorcycle was traveling southbound when the rider veered off the roadway onto the outside shoulder and collided with the woods. Both the rider and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the investigation into the exact cause of the crash remains ongoing.
