SOUTH CAROLINA — One person was killed early Saturday morning in a shooting in Greenville, according to authorities.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said Greenville police were called to Gates Street around 4:45 a.m. in reference to a gunshot victim. Officers arriving at the scene found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim was identified by the coroner’s office as 30-year-old Quandre Jerome Whitner. He was transported to Prisma Health Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Greenville Police Department said Javon Dendy has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Dendy has been charged with voluntary manslaughter.
Whitner’s death has been ruled a homicide. An autopsy has been scheduled, and the incident remains under investigation by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office and the Greenville Police Department.
