
VIRGINIA — A 90-year-old Dinwiddie County man was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck while checking his mail along Route 1, according to the Virginia State Police.
State police said troopers responded to a pedestrian crash at 2:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, on Route 1 in Dinwiddie County. A preliminary investigation found that a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling northbound when it struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway.
The pedestrian was identified as 90-year-old Robert Stout of Dinwiddie County. Police said Stout was checking his mail at a roadside mailbox when he was hit by the side mirror of the truck.
Stout was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as a 17-year-old Dinwiddie County resident. Police said the teen was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
According to investigators, speed, alcohol, and drugs were not factors in the incident. The crash remains under investigation.
