Florida teacher arrested for possessing fentanyl on school grounds

FLORIDA — A substitute teacher was arrested last week after police said she was found in possession of fentanyl inside an employee bathroom at Oceanway Middle School, according to arrest reports.

Police said Jessica Muncy, 44, was discovered with multiple bags containing a “white and bluish powder substance” inside her purse. The substance later tested positive for fentanyl. Officers also reported finding aluminum foil and two blue straws with what appeared to be burnt ends. Investigators said Muncy admitted to flushing additional bags, believed to contain more drugs, down the employee bathroom toilet.

According to reports, when asked about the substance, Muncy initially told officers she did not know what it was and claimed it belonged to her daughter.

The incident began when a school staff member notified the school’s safety officer about a possible drug overdose in the bathroom. Witnesses reported a burning smell coming from the area. When staff entered the bathroom, Muncy was reportedly seen slumped over on the toilet and rocking back and forth.

The safety officer said Muncy was seated next to a piece of aluminum foil placed on a toilet paper holder. A search allegedly uncovered additional foil and two lighters in her possession.

A K-9 search of Muncy’s vehicle later located more of the bluish powdery substance on the floor near the driver’s seat, police said.

Muncy faces multiple felony charges, including possession of fentanyl, destruction of evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
