Kentucky school district cancels all weekend activities due to incoming snow

KENTUCKY — Jefferson County Public Schools has canceled all weekend activities as a major winter storm is expected to impact the region.

District officials announced Thursday that all athletic events, practices, and extracurricular activities scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25, have been canceled. The cancellations include all home and away competitions, team practices, and club meetings.

Forecasters are calling for several inches of snow across Kentucky and southern Indiana, along with bitter Arctic temperatures. In Louisville, snowfall totals could range from 8 to more than 12 inches over the weekend.

“We will continue to monitor the conditions closely,” JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said.

School officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution as hazardous travel conditions are expected. Additional updates will be provided as weather conditions evolve.
