OHIO — A man was arrested Wednesday night following a standoff with deputies at a home in Champaign County, authorities said.
According to Chief Deputy Robert Wagner with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence on Springfield Street in St. Paris shortly before 9:45 p.m. for a reported domestic incident.
Deputies were informed that 34-year-old Alexander Roberts was intoxicated, breaking items inside the home, and that a handgun might be present in the room. When deputies arrived, they located Roberts hiding under a bed. Authorities said deputies disengaged after Roberts stated he had a gun and threatened to shoot himself.
Wagner said Roberts initially refused to come downstairs despite repeated verbal commands. After continued de-escalation efforts and the arrival of additional units, Roberts eventually calmed down and became cooperative.
Roberts was taken into custody and charged with inducing panic. He was then transported to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The incident was resolved without injuries to deputies or the public.
