Kentucky school closings and delays for Tuesday

0

KENTUCKY — Leslie County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday, January 20, 2026, due to frigid temperatures affecting eastern Kentucky.

School officials cited dangerously low morning temperatures and wind chill values as the reason for the delayed start. The later opening is intended to allow safer travel conditions for students and staff, particularly during early morning bus routes.

Forecasters are warning that the region could experience some of the coldest conditions of the winter season, with wind chills well below zero during the morning hours. Such conditions can pose health risks, including frostbite, especially for children waiting at bus stops.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure students are dressed appropriately for the cold and to stay alert for any additional announcements from school officials. As conditions can change, families should continue to monitor official district communications for updates.
