
VIRGINIA — Numerous school divisions across western and southwestern Virginia will operate on delayed schedules or virtual learning on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as bitterly cold temperatures continue across the region.
School officials cited hazardous morning conditions, including extreme cold and dangerous wind chills, as the reason for the schedule adjustments. The changes are intended to allow safer travel for students and staff during the morning hours.
Two-Hour Delays
The following school systems will open two hours late Tuesday:

- Washington County Schools
- Wise County Schools
- Grace Christian Academy (Max Meadows)
Virtual Learning
- Bland County Schools — Virtual learning Tuesday
- Tazewell County Schools — Virtual learning Tuesday; staff will report as scheduled
