KENTUCKY — A man is in custody after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that began in Logan County and ended in Bowling Green early Sunday morning, authorities said.
According to Stephen Stratton of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began at about 1:17 a.m. Jan. 18 when a deputy conducting speed enforcement on U.S. 68 East near Kentucky 103 observed a vehicle traveling 80 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to stop and fled.
Sheriff’s officials said the vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 mph and was driven recklessly, creating a danger to the public. Assistance was provided by the Kentucky State Police, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bowling Green Police Department. Spike strips were eventually deployed, disabling the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver was taken into custody without incident at a Shell gas station on Russellville Road in Bowling Green.
The driver was identified as John Long. Officials initially believed the vehicle had been stolen from Christian County, but it was later confirmed to have been stolen out of Nashville. The vehicle was recovered with minimal damage.
Sheriff’s officials said Long was determined to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was transported for medical evaluation. Investigators also learned that he has a suspended Indiana driver’s license.
The case remains under investigation.
