VIRGINIA — Light snow is expected to impact much of Virginia later today as a winter weather system moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said there is moderate to high confidence that most areas of Virginia will see some snowfall. Rain early Sunday morning is expected to gradually transition to a rain-and-snow mix or all snow later this afternoon into the early evening as temperatures cool. Snow is expected to taper off quickly after about 10 p.m.

Snowfall totals will vary by location. The highest amounts are expected across the Northern Neck, where 1 to 2 inches of snow are possible. Most other inland areas of Virginia, including central and eastern portions of the state, are forecast to receive between one-half inch and 1 inch of snow. Coastal areas closer to northeastern North Carolina are expected to see little to no accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be marginal for significant accumulation, with most snow expected to collect on grassy areas and elevated surfaces rather than roadways. Even so, drivers are urged to remain cautious, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours when snowfall rates may briefly increase.
Officials recommend monitoring local forecasts for updates as conditions change throughout the day.
