
KENTUCKY — Several school districts across eastern and northern Kentucky have announced closures or shifts to virtual learning for Friday, January 16, 2026, due to weather conditions and other operational issues.
In Floyd County, Floyd County Schools will be closed Friday and will operate under an NTI Plan C. In Bell County, Middlesboro Independent Schools will continue virtual learning through January 16, marking NTI Days 2 and 3 for students.
Further north, Robertson County Schools will also remain in virtual learning mode through Friday, accounting for NTI Days 4 and 5.
In northeast Kentucky, Boyd County Public Schools announced that classes will be in session Friday at all schools except Ponderosa Elementary School, which will be closed as crews continue repairs to a water main issue. All other Boyd County schools will operate on a normal schedule.
Meanwhile, Carter County Schools will be closed Friday, with the day designated as a snow day.
Parents and students are encouraged to monitor district communications for updates, as schedules may change depending on conditions.
