Kentucky school district announces closure due to illness

KENTUCKY — A Northern Kentucky school district will shift to non-traditional instruction (NTI) days for the remainder of the week due to a rise in student and staff illnesses.

In a statement to families, Robertson County Schools Superintendent Sanford Holbrook said the district has seen a “significant increase” in the number of students being sent home sick, including a growing number of confirmed flu and strep throat cases. District officials said the number of illnesses among students and staff has reached “a concerning level.”

After consulting with local health officials, the district announced schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 15, and Friday, Jan. 16, with NTI days in place so students can continue learning remotely.

Holbrook said custodial staff will use the closure to conduct a deep cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, and buses. “This proactive measure is intended to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all upon our return,” Holbrook said.

District officials said they anticipate returning to in-person instruction on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
