Multiple schools in Tennessee announce closures for Thursday

TENNESSEE — Numerous Tennessee school districts have announced closures and delayed openings for Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, as districts adjust operations due to weather-related and logistical concerns across the state.

Several districts will operate on two-hour delays Thursday morning. These include Dayton City SchoolsGrundy County SchoolsMeigs County SchoolsRhea County Schools, and Sequatchie County Schools.
Also opening two hours late are Hawkins County SchoolsJohnson County Schools in Mountain City, Sullivan County Schools, and Washington County Schools.

One district will be closed for the day. Polk County Schools announced a full closure for Thursday.

Additionally, in Hancock County, schools in Sneedville will be closed Thursday, while nearby Hawkins County schools will operate on a two-hour delay.
