
FLORIDA — Two people were killed and two police officers were injured during a shooting Wednesday morning in Gainesville, according to local authorities.
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said two officers with the Gainesville Police Department suffered non-life-threatening injuries during an incident in the 1300 block of East University Avenue.
Officials said officers were called to reports of shots fired around 8 a.m. at Imeca Lumber & Hardware. When officers arrived, one person was found dead at the business.
Police said the shooting suspect attempted to leave the area, exited a vehicle, and fired a gun, striking two Gainesville police officers. During the encounter, another officer shot the suspect, killing him, authorities said.
Both injured officers were transported to a hospital for treatment. No additional details about the identities of those killed or the circumstances leading up to the shooting were immediately released.
The incident remains under investigation.
