OHIO — A winter weather advisory has been issued for several counties in northeast Ohio, with lake-effect snow expected to impact travel from Wednesday through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service Cleveland.
The advisory covers Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula Inland, and Ashtabula Lakeshore counties. This includes communities such as Cleveland, Mentor, Willoughby, Wickliffe, Eastlake, Painesville, Chesterland, Chardon, Burton, Bainbridge, Middlefield, South Russell, Geneva, Jefferson, Ashtabula, Conneaut, Andover, Orwell, Roaming Shores, and Willowick.
The advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. Thursday. Forecasters say lake-effect snow is expected to produce total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches across the affected Ohio counties. Snowfall rates and gusty winds may lead to periods of reduced visibility.
Officials warn that road conditions could become slippery, with slower travel likely. The hazardous conditions may affect both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. In addition to snow, blustery conditions are expected as a cold front moves through the region. Temperatures are forecast to fall throughout the day Wednesday, with wind chills potentially dropping below zero Wednesday night.
The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission are urging motorists to use caution, follow travel advisories, and delay unnecessary trips if possible. Drivers are encouraged to monitor road conditions and traffic updates through the state’s official travel information system.
Residents are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for changing weather conditions as the system moves through northeast Ohio.
