OHIO — Two people were arrested and a third suspect remains at large following an attempted theft of nearly $3,000 worth of trading cards at a Kettering Meijer store Monday night.
According to the Kettering Police Department, officers were called to a theft in progress shortly before 10 p.m. at the Meijer located at 4075 Wilmington Pike. Store loss prevention officers reported that two individuals were inside the store filling trash bags with trading cards.
Police said loss prevention staff and officers attempted to stop the suspects as they exited through the main doors. During the encounter, the suspects allegedly pushed a loss prevention officer, ran back into the store, and then fled through a rear fire exit.
Officers pursued the suspects, apprehending one individual in the woods behind the store. Dominic Philpot Jr., 20, was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on charges of robbery, theft, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest.
Investigators later located the suspected getaway vehicle leaving a nearby McDonald’s. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Christopher Gill, was arrested and charged with complicity to robbery and theft.
Police said the second suspect who was inside the store with Philpot Jr. has been identified but has not yet been located. The total value of the recovered merchandise was $2,994.24. No injuries were reported.
