WISCONSIN — A winter weather advisory is in effect for multiple areas of northern and northeastern Wisconsin, with hazardous travel conditions expected during the early morning hours Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow is forecast to move across parts of the state between the overnight hours and Tuesday morning. Snow and sleet accumulations are expected to remain under one inch in most locations, but a light glaze of ice is possible, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
The advisory includes portions of Langlade, northern Oconto, and southern Marinette counties, as well as surrounding areas. Cities and communities impacted include Antigo, Crivitz, Townsend, Spread Eagle, High Falls Reservoir, Harmony, Middle Inlet, Lakewood, Niagara, Peshtigo, Wausaukee, Merrill, Rhinelander, Eagle River, Tomahawk, Mountain, Loomis, Porterfield, Aurora, Commonwealth, and Crandon.
Forecasters say the most significant impacts are expected during the Tuesday morning commute, when slick and icy road conditions could make travel hazardous. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially on elevated surfaces.
Residents are also advised to watch for icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, which could increase the risk of slips and falls. The advisory remains in effect through mid-morning Tuesday, with conditions expected to gradually improve later in the day.
