OHIO — A gun was discovered on a student at an elementary school in Cleveland on Monday morning, according to school officials.

The incident occurred at Riverside School, located in the 14600 block of Montrose Avenue. Riverside School serves students in grades Pre-K through eighth grade and is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

Riverside School Principal Heather Kama-Starr said a staff member found the weapon as the student was entering the building. The gun was immediately confiscated, and officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.

In a letter sent to parents, Kama-Starr said steps are being taken to prevent a similar incident from happening again and emphasized the school’s commitment to student safety.

“As the building principal, it is my responsibility to ensure that our scholars are provided with a safe place that is conducive to learning and that their social-emotional learning is protected and uninterrupted,” Kama-Starr wrote.

School officials did not release additional details about the student involved or whether law enforcement action was taken.
