Snowfall expected across Ohio this weekend

OHIO — Drivers across much of Ohio could encounter slick and hazardous travel conditions late Saturday night into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said light snow is expected to develop early Sunday morning across a wide portion of the state, including central, western, and southern Ohio.

Areas potentially affected include communities such as Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Springfield, Newark, Hamilton, Middletown, Lancaster, Circleville, Chillicothe, Portsmouth, Wilmington, Xenia, Greenville, Sidney, Marysville, Bellefontaine, and surrounding areas.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain minor, temperatures hovering around the freezing mark could lead to slick spots on roadways, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, as well as untreated roads. Additional snow showers are expected through the morning hours as temperatures fall into the mid to upper 20s.

The National Weather Service said brief bursts of snow may reduce visibility and allow light accumulations to quickly cover roads, leading to rapidly changing driving conditions.

Motorists traveling Sunday are encouraged to allow extra time, reduce speeds, and use caution, particularly during the early morning hours when slick conditions are most likely.
