INDIANA — A major power outage left portions of Mishawaka without electricity Saturday morning, according to authorities.

The outage was reported around 10 a.m., according to the Mishawaka Police Department. Mishawaka Utilities said the outage is affecting the downtown area and southwestern portions of the city.

Officials said the impacted area extends south of the river from Ironwood Drive on the west to Merrifield Avenue on the east. Power has been restored to customers in the area from Ironwood Drive to Logan Street, while crews continue working to restore service to the remaining affected areas.

In response to the outage, the Mishawaka Street Department is placing stop signs at intersections where traffic signals are not functioning.

Motorists are reminded to treat any intersection with a non-working traffic signal as a four-way stop until power is fully restored. Further updates are expected as restoration efforts continue.
