SOUTH CAROLINA — A man is in custody following a multi-county pursuit that began after a deputy’s vehicle was intentionally rammed in the Upstate on Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement.
Around 2:15 p.m., deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Reedy Fork Road and Saddlebred Drive in Pelzer in connection with suspected drug-related activity. Deputies said the driver initially pulled over but then intentionally rammed a deputy’s patrol vehicle multiple times before fleeing the scene.
A brief pursuit followed, but deputies terminated the chase due to the danger it posed to the public. A short time later, the suspect’s vehicle was located by the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, which pursued the vehicle into Laurens County.
During the chase, the vehicle crashed, and the driver ran from the scene on foot near Confederate Drive and McCoy Road in Ware Shoals. Just before 4 p.m., the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office announced it was assisting Greenville and Greenwood county deputies in searching for the suspect.
At 4:42 p.m., deputies confirmed the suspect had been taken into custody. Authorities identified him as 43-year-old Corey Scott Dutler.
Dutler is expected to face three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, along with charges of failure to stop for blue lights and reckless driving.
The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
