OHIO — Two people were arrested late Saturday evening following reported assaults on police officers at a Vandalia extended-stay hotel, according to the Vandalia Police Department.

Police said officers were called to the Hawthorne Extended Stay, located at 7070 Poe Avenue, just before 11 p.m. in response to reports of disorderly conduct. Upon arrival, officers encountered a woman who was being asked to leave the property.

According to a police captain, officers attempted to resolve the situation when the woman began arguing with a man. As officers intervened to break up the confrontation, the woman allegedly assaulted one of the responding officers. When officers moved to place her under arrest, the man reportedly interfered and also assaulted officers.

Police said a large crowd began to gather as officers worked to take the two individuals into custody. Due to the escalating situation, a county-wide request for assistance was issued.

Both the man and the woman were arrested at the scene. In addition, two other men were charged with obstructing official business and were released at the location, police said.

The case is being presented to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office for review of potential criminal charges. The incident remains under investigation, and no further information has been released at this time.
