GEORGIA — A fatal multi-vehicle crash shut down part of a DeKalb County highway for several hours Saturday morning, according to police.

DeKalb County police were called to the eastbound lanes of Highway 78 near Mountain Industrial Boulevard around 6 a.m. after reports of a serious crash involving multiple vehicles. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video from the area showed debris scattered across the roadway as emergency crews responded and blocked traffic to investigate and clear the scene. Several vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash.

Police said investigators believe the collision may have been caused by a wrong-way driver, though the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

As of 9:55 a.m., Highway 78 eastbound remained closed while authorities continued their work. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
