OHIO — A man accused of killing an innocent bystander during a 2021 shooting on Cleveland’s east side has been arrested, according to U.S. Marshals.

Members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force on Friday took 30-year-old Regis Hill into custody. Hill was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police in connection with the death of 39-year-old Santino Wilson.

Authorities said Wilson was walking along a sidewalk near East 75th Street and Kinsman Avenue on July 5, 2021, when gunfire broke out. Investigators said two groups of people were involved in an argument that escalated, leading at least one person to fire multiple shots.

Wilson was struck in the chest during the exchange and later died from his injuries.

Police spent years working to identify a suspect. Earlier this year, detectives identified Hill and obtained a warrant charging him with aggravated murder.

The case was turned over to the fugitive task force in March. On Friday, officers located Hill’s vehicle on Kewanee Avenue in Cleveland and tracked him to a nearby residence.

According to U.S. Marshals, Hill refused to come out, prompting officers to breach the door and take him into custody.

“This type of careless violence has no place in our communities,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement. “We will hold those who commit these terrible crimes and who take the victims from their families accountable.”

Hill is now in custody as the case proceeds.
