Two workers taken to hospital following incident at Pennsylvania chemical plant

PENNSYLVANIA — Two workers were taken to a hospital Tuesday afternoon following an incident at a chemical plant in Westmoreland County.

The incident occurred at the ATI plant in Vandergrift, according to company officials.

ATI said a third-party contractor was cleaning secondary containments for storage tanks as part of efforts to remove snowmelt from rainwater when a chemical reaction occurred.

The two people most closely involved in the process were transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, the company said. Officials reported that all employees and contractors at the facility are safe and accounted for.

Plant officials said the reaction was contained and that there is no risk to the surrounding community.
