Two teens dead following vehicle crash in Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI — A tragic early-morning crash in Clay County has left two teenagers dead, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The collision occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday on West Tibbee Road near Highway 45.

Officials say a 2016 Nissan Altima was traveling east on West Tibbee Road when the driver attempted to turn north onto Highway 45. As the vehicle entered the intersection, it collided with a northbound 2024 Mazda SUV.

The two victims, identified as 18-year-old Nia Gates of Nettleton and 19-year-old Christopher Standifer of Prairie, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released information on the condition of the individuals inside the Mazda.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Clay County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
