OHIO — A woman and a 6-year-old child were killed Friday afternoon in a head-on collision that also left three others injured, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. on State Route 7. Investigators say 47-year-old Heather Reger of Proctorville was driving an SUV northbound when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail.
The SUV then traveled along the guardrail before crossing into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with another vehicle.
Reger and 6-year-old Bryston Adkins were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other juvenile passengers in Reger’s vehicle were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in critical condition. Troopers noted that none of the children in the SUV were wearing seat belts.
The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained minor injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
